Some of the Bowls Circle in June 2019

The Old Southendian Bowls Circle has been in existence for well over 40 years. With the absence of its own rink, matches are played on an ‘away’ basis. These are played as friendlies and although competitive are most enjoyable. All are played outdoors between May and September at clubs in and around the Southend Area on either a Wednesday or Thursday afternoon. For the upcoming 2018 season 16 matches have been organised, a mixture of triples and rinks requiring a minimum of 9 to 16 playing members.

We currently have a membership of 34 the vast majority of whom play for other local clubs as well as the Circle. They manage their club commitments with our own. This number also includes wives/partners following a decision of several years ago to invite them to play to avoid the possibility of the Circle folding through declining numbers with retirements. New members are always most welcome, hopefully it will not be too long before we have our first lady Old Boy bowling for the Circle.
