Football

The Old Boys Football Club run 6 teams, 3 adult men's teams on Saturdays, all playing in the Essex Olympian League, and 3 men's Vets teams who play on Sundays in the Southend Borough Combination Veterans League.

Our Saturday 1st XI currently play at their highest level in the club's history, plying their trade in the Essex Olympian Premier Division and finishing runners-up in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons. The Reserves play in Essex Olympian Senior Division 2 and our recently resurrected Saturday A team (3rd XI) play in Division 4 South East of the EOFL. On Sundays we have 3 Vets teams, 2 over 35s teams and an over 50s side, providing a great opportunity for our older players to stay involved. Our teams are always on the lookout for new players, especially ex-pupils of the School so please contact us via if you fancy some Old Boys football.

Our home ground is at Garon Park where our 1st team, reserves and A team play on the fabulous 3G pitch, whilst our Vets teams play on the grass pitches. There is a café and a great clubhouse so why not pop over, support the Old Boys and have Bovril or a beer or two? Plans have been submitted to build a second 3G all-weather pitch at the venue and the club are also looking into the possibility of a move into the Thurlow Nunn League which would mean ground improvements and a lot more games! Keep your eyes peeled! With so many local clubs having folded over the last 10-15 years, it's wonderful to see the Old Boys football club flourishing.

We have engaged with the Old Southendian Youth Football Club which includes lots of SHSB lads, to organise a proper system which will hopefully encourage them to move from youth football up to men's football once they are old enough. We also hope to rebuild our connection with the School and get the boys interested in playing for the club.

The Football Club website can be found at www.oldsouthendianfc.co.uk but is currently awaiting someone to run it. However, we can be found on Facebook and Instagram. There is a weekly newsletter during the season with match reports, fixtures and event dates. Anyone interested in receiving this, please contact us at and we’ll soon have you added.

Up the Old Boys!
